Rebecca Wesley Named Head Girls Cross Country Coach at Minnetonka High School

(MINNETONKA, Minnesota, February, 2023): Minnetonka Schools is pleased to announce it has named Rebecca Wesley as Head Girls Cross Country Coach. Wesley fills the role held by Hall of Fame Coach Jane Reimer-Morgan, who after 32 years of coaching cross country at Minnetonka, is easing back on coaching duties to spend more time with her family and friends.

Coach Wesley joins the Minnetonka coaching staff with a wealth of experience in the world of running and coaching. She served as the assistant cross country and track and field coach at St. Cloud State University from 2018 – 2022. There, she developed and implemented the training programs for the distance student-athletes. From 2017-2018, Rebecca was an intern assistant track and field coach at Luther College, and she began her coaching career in 2016 as an assistant cross country coach at Augsburg College (now Augsburg University).

“Rebecca Wesley will be an outstanding coach and mentor for our student athletes,” said Ted Schultz, Director of Athletics and Activities at Minnetonka Schools. “She brings an immense passion for the sport of running, and she has experience as a coach and a runner that will aid her in continuing the excellent tradition of Minnetonka Cross Country Program. Coach Wesley will provide thoughtful leadership and support for all our student-athletes.”

As an athlete, Rebecca ran for the University of Minnesota and was a cross country letterwinner during the 2015 season. As an undergrad at Bethel University, Rebecca received multiple letters and All-MIAC honors.  She was given the program's Commitment and Leadership Award and served as a team captain during the 2014 and 2015 track and field seasons.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the Minnetonka Girls Cross Country program,” said Rebecca of her new role. “I am passionate about helping student-athletes grow to be their personal best, and I am honored to take on the strong program that Coach Jane Reimer-Morgan and her staff have built at Minnetonka.”

Rebecca was a double major in Biokinetics and Philosophy at Bethel University and earned her M.Ed. in Applied Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota. She has held several coaching certifications including the USTFCCCA Technical Certification (2022), the USTFCCCA Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification (2018), the USTFCCCA Program Management Certification (2018), and the USATF Level 1 Track and Field Coach Certification (2017).

A brief player meet and greet with Coach Wesley is planned for Friday, February 17th at 2:45pm in the MHS Forum.
